Pet food, treats and chews: snap the front of the pack or scan its barcode, in the store aisle or your own pantry.

STEP 2

AI reads the label

AI identifies the brand and recipe, then finds the ingredients in our catalogue or online, or reads them from a photo of the ingredient panel. If we can't read the ingredients, we ask for a photo.

STEP 3

Get your pet's score

Fixed rules work out a 0–100 score for your pet's profile, with every factor shown on screen. Multiple pets? Pick them before you scan and one scan scores each; tap between them to see each pet's score.

"Why 92?" always has an answer

Scores aren't AI vibes. Fixed, versioned rules compute every score, and the app shows its work: points up for a named protein first, points down for questionable additives, and a 0 when the ingredients we read include an allergen you selected for your pet.

Under 60? Tap for up to three better-rated suggestions. Open one: if its label can be found online, it's scored for your pet with its own breakdown; if not, the app tells you it couldn't verify it. Check the label before you buy.

Each scan is checked against the FDA and CPSC recall notices in our database, which doesn't include every recall. If a notice matches, it's shown right on the result. The official notice is always the authority.

How the score is made

Built so the AI never writes the score

PawCheck shows its work instead of asking you to trust a black box.

AI identifies. Rules score.

AI reads the label; fixed rules work out the score. The 0–100 comes from versioned rules on your phone; the AI never writes the number.

Recall check

Each scan is checked against the FDA and CPSC recall notices in our database, which doesn't include every recall. The official notice is always the authority.

Honest about uncertainty

If we can't read the ingredients, we ask for a photo. Wrong product? Tap "Not right?" and we use your report to improve matching.
